Michael asks…
Can I get a Schengen visa in Japan?
I am a citizen of Uzbekistan (Asia). In August I am leaving to make my master’s degree in Japan, Kyoto. I will be residing in Japan for two years on a student visa basis.
During my summer holiday, I would like to to travel across europe.
Right now I am wondering whether I will be able to get the Schengen visa in the embassy of one of european countries in Japan. Or shall I get that visa only in my home country?
admin answers:
At present it is advisable to apply for the visa from your current place of residence. Visa can be applied for up to three month prior to travel. After you have resided in Japan for at least three months you will also be able to apply for the visa from there. The visa needs to be applied for at the Embassy of the country in which you plan to stay the longest time (main destination). If no main destination exist it will be the country of first entry. Schengen visa are issued in Tashkent as follows:
• by the Czech Embassy for the Czech Republic
• by the German Embassy for Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Sweden
• by the French Embassy for Belgium, France, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal
• by the Italian Embassy for Greece, Italy, Norway, Malta, Slovenia
• by the Latvian Embassy for Estonia, Hungary, Latvia,
• by the Polish Embassy for Poland
• by the Slovakian Embassy for Slovakia
• by the Swiss Embassy for Switzerland
Visa for Lithuania are issued by the Lithuanian Embassy at Ankara/Turkey..

Sandy asks…
Are travel Visas required for Japan?
admin answers:
What passport are you holding?
If you have a us passport, no visa is required if you stay in japan for three months or less. Check out this page — http://www.traveldocs.com/jp/er.htm. It’ll give you detailed information on entry requirements in the land of the rising sun.
if you have a different passport, it’s always best to inquire in a japanese embassy/consulate in your country.

Look up the web site for every country along the route. You will have to get a separate visa for each and every one of them. And every one has different rules.
