Travel In Japan 2011

John asks…

Question about Tsunami after the Japan Earthquake in 2011, what about California?

If a Tsunami strikes from the ocean near San Francisco, how far can that tsunami travel into the bay Area? For example, I live in Fremont, California, so can the Tsunami travel close to Fremont or will it stop near San Francisco. Basically, how many miles does a Tsunami travel before losing velocity?

admin answers:

If a tsunami were to hit the bay area the distance it would travel inland is a function of elevation not miles. There are lots of low-lying land areas in the east bay and along the area of the Sacramento River. To determine if you are at risk from a tsunami two things must be true, 1) you are located at an elevation of less than 20 feet above sea level, and 2) there is a direct line from the bay or ocean without hills to your location.

To easily check your elevation find a topographic map and located yourself on it and read the elevation info. If that is to technical for you, ask some one with a portable GPS to take a reading near you. Or you can use Google Earth and turn on the terrain feature, then find your location and look at the elevation at the bottom of the screen.

I walked out into my kitchen today and saw a letter attatched to my fridge by a magnent. The letter was from an organazation called People to People and it states that “Joshua is invited to travel and study in Japan in the summer of 2011” I am wondering if this is legitmite and if it is a worthwhile experience. Thanks

Thomas asks…

Cost for a trip to Japan?

I plan on taking a trip to Japan in summer 2010 or summer 2011. I wanted to know, roughly, how much money I would need for a 2 week trip for hotels, food and restaurants, buying merchandise, traveling etc.

p.s I live in Canada

admin answers:

Don’t you include the air ticket?

I think you need about $1500 for the air ticket.

And others,
hotel: $100 per night and $1400 for 2 weeks.
Food, transportation and others: also $100 per day.

So you need about $2800 for 2 weeks.

Mark asks…

How much would it cost to stay in Japan for about 2 months?

Okay,
So a friend and I are looking to visit Japan in June of 2011 and stay until about August of 2011, and I’m wondering about how much money do you think this would cost?
We have a place to stay, so we don’t have to worry about the prices in that. I’ve looked around several airlines and the cheapest tickets I can find, for round trip vary from about $1500 to almost $3000. Does anyone know where I can find a cheaper flight?
We would be flying into Tokyo, and departing from either Austin or Amarillo, Texas.
Also, we’d most likely be using buses and trains for traveling.
Can anyone tell me about how much money my friend and I would need to save up.
Thanks :)

I think you need at least $1500 for each month, for food, transportation and others. So you need $3000 for 2 months.

For air ticket, you can check HIS, the Japanese travel agency selling discount air tickets.
