Travel In Japan 2011

John asks…

Question about Tsunami after the Japan Earthquake in 2011, what about California?

If a Tsunami strikes from the ocean near San Francisco, how far can that tsunami travel into the bay Area? For example, I live in Fremont, California, so can the Tsunami travel close to Fremont or will it stop near San Francisco. Basically, how many miles does a Tsunami travel before losing velocity?

admin answers:

If a tsunami were to hit the bay area the distance it would travel inland is a function of elevation not miles. There are lots of low-lying land areas in the east bay and along the area of the Sacramento River. To determine if you are at risk from a tsunami two things must be true, 1) you are located at an elevation of less than 20 feet above sea level, and 2) there is a direct line from the bay or ocean without hills to your location.

To easily check your elevation find a topographic map and located yourself on it and read the elevation info. If that is to technical for you, ask some one with a portable GPS to take a reading near you. Or you can use Google Earth and turn on the terrain feature, then find your location and look at the elevation at the bottom of the screen.

Cost for a trip to Japan?

I plan on taking a trip to Japan in summer 2010 or summer 2011. I wanted to know, roughly, how much money I would need for a 2 week trip for hotels, food and restaurants, buying merchandise, traveling etc.

p.s I live in Canada

admin answers:

Don’t you include the air ticket?

I think you need about $1500 for the air ticket.

And others,
hotel: $100 per night and $1400 for 2 weeks.
Food, transportation and others: also $100 per day.

So you need about $2800 for 2 weeks.

Mark asks…

How much would it cost to stay in Japan for about 2 months?

Okay,
So a friend and I are looking to visit Japan in June of 2011 and stay until about August of 2011, and I’m wondering about how much money do you think this would cost?
We have a place to stay, so we don’t have to worry about the prices in that. I’ve looked around several airlines and the cheapest tickets I can find, for round trip vary from about $1500 to almost $3000. Does anyone know where I can find a cheaper flight?
We would be flying into Tokyo, and departing from either Austin or Amarillo, Texas.
Also, we’d most likely be using buses and trains for traveling.
Can anyone tell me about how much money my friend and I would need to save up.
Thanks :)

admin answers:

I think you need at least $1500 for each month, for food, transportation and others. So you need $3000 for 2 months.

For air ticket, you can check HIS, the Japanese travel agency selling discount air tickets.

Question to Japanophiles: How long did you have to wish to go to Japan before you went there?

I have wished to go to Japan for 13 years and never got a chance to go there. I started to want to go to Japan when I was a teenager but didn’t get a chance as my parents are not into traveling and such. Now, Japan just seems to be not on the way (in my husband’s way, lol). Will I never go there? Sorry, I know, this sounds weird.

admin answers:

Keep saving money to go there! Who knows, in ten years when your life seems a little more stable, you might have the chance to go. Yet, remember, trips, in a way, are like children; there is never really a perfect time for them to come. I have wanted to go to for a year now, and one of my closest friend has wanted to go for four years.

John asks…

Do you think we will have more of a culture diffusion now that Japan got hit by tsunami?

I have been seriously been thinking about all of the amazing culture Japan has. What will happen to the harajuku people and their culture meeting they have every Sunday at the Bridge to Yoyogi Park. Are the Japanese going to in Japan or are they going to travel to america to start a new Culture with us?
im not saying its a bad thing I LOVE JAPANESE ROCK MUSIC im just wondering if i will get to meet new people i love the harajuku scene its awsome

admin answers:

I hope they do not come here because their unique culture will be compromised. Americans are not welcoming to people who make a visible impact. They do not treat them very well if they try to maintain their original ways

Nancy asks…

Why is it in Travel _ Japan section, theres a number of thumbs down even though?

the answer is good enough and makes sense?

admin answers:

There was a similar question just the other day.

The Japan section, just like other sections, has become a bit of a popularity contest. Some people give certain users thumbs down even if they have a good answer. Other people chronically give thumbs down no matter what. It is really unfair. I think the thumbs down should be eliminated.

Sandra asks…

I want to travel to Japan to meet Japanese girls? For fun, gf, maybe marriage too.?

I am 32, single man.
Where in Japan is the best place to meet cute/pretty japanese girls?

admin answers:

I don’t think you can have you cake & eat it too. You can find fun girls in clubs in places like Shinjuku and Ropponji. Many will be Chinese or Korean. Can you tell the difference ?
Finding a girlfriend or wife won’t be so easy in a short period of time. If you want easy try Thailand
or China.

Donna asks…

how much would i need if i want to travel to japan??

i am from australia, and plannin to saty in japan for a week, and wondering how much i would need to go there?

admin answers:

I spent the past year in Japan on a work assignment. I went over thinking everything would be expensive because that is always what I heard. It’s really no true. Tokyo can be a bit much but all other cities are similar to what I experience in the US. Somethings are better, somethings are worse. Check a site like frommers.com, they may have some good info on hotel rooms which will be your major expense. Also, if you are taking the shinkansen(high speed trains), it is best to buy tickets outside the country, they offer deals for tourists.

Susan asks…

I’m going to travel to Japan in a few weeks… can I moblog with Vodafone?

I will have the Unlimited Data and eMail plan, and I usually use Blogger, but I am wondering if there are any other, better options for moblogging. I believe my phone will support Java. Is this possible?

David

admin answers:

Yeah, you will be able to use data services in Japan, but you’ll be charged an arm and two legs for it in “International Data Roaming”. It can be as expensive as a pound for every KB you transfer (to give you an idea, the length of this answer I’m recording would probably be around 2 KB and could thus cost up to two pounds just to post a blog of this length, not to mention the size of the sites you would have to navigate through to access the moblog site). I would recommend just finding an Internet Cafe (they’re all over the place in Japan) and blogging from a computer, it’ll be a lot cheaper.
