Tickets Japan Airlines

Carol asks…

Where is a good place to buy airlines tickets online for departures and arrivals in Asia?

I would like to fly from a major city in China to Hong Kong RT, and then a major city in China to a major city in Japan OW.

Thanks!
For anyone that wants to know a real answer to this questions – some of my Chinese friends game me the following website which had amazing deals! You need a membership and I’m not sure where to get one, but I saved a ton of money. http://english.ctrip.com.

BTW, nwa.com suggestion. Thanks so much for your help, but nwa did not do airfare from China to Japan, which was the route I wanted. Thanks anyway.

Donald asks…

Japan Airlines / All Nippon Airways?

Can anyone tell me which airline carrier is better and why. I have found tickets for both airlines through student airfare, the cost is relatively the same. I just want an opinion on which carrier gave you the best experience.

Thanks!

admin answers:

You know, I’ve only flown all All Nippon Airways (twice), and I did like it, but I rather get the feeling that JAL might be a little “fancier.” The service was good on ANA and the flights were enjoyable, but I think JAL might be a little more internationally-focused (rather than Japan-focused), if that makes sense. I do remember the seat pitch on ANA being quite narrow (in economy), although not uncomfortable. And there’s a cabin at the back where you can help yourself to snacks like Pringles and Crunch bars!

Tell you what, check out Skytrax; they rank and rate all the airlines in the world, and have a huge section devoted to airline reviews (I always use them when deciding which carrier to fly with.) ANA and JAL are both ranked as four-star airlines (out five), which is very good (all U.S.-based airlines are three stars).

Here’s the ANA ranking page:

http://www.airlinequality.com/Airlines/NH.htm

and here’s the JAL ranking page: http://www.airlinequality.com/Airlines/JL.htm

Here are the reviews for ANA: http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/ana.htm
And here are the reviews for JAL: http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/jal.htm

Bottom line? If it were my decision and the prices were the same, I’d go with JAL.

Good luck — and have a safe flight!

David asks…

At LAX, is the Baggage Claim for Singapore Airlines (from Tokyo NRT) always at the Tom Bradley Terminal?

I can’t seem to find a definite answer, but the answer seems to be “yes.” I need to pick someone up at a baggage claim and I know their flight from Tokyo arrives at Tom Bradley. The only reason why I doubt this answer would be because I could have sworn my baggage terminal was at Terminal 1 when I came back from Japan on Singapore Airlines this past March. I could just be losing my mind.

admin answers:

Singapore Airlines arrives and departs from the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Terminal 1 is for Southwest and US Airways flights. Therefore go and pick-up your friend at the International Terminal.

William asks…

Why doesn’t USA have a flag carrier airline?

For example:

Germany;
Air Berlin
Germanwings
Lufthansa…(flag carrier)

United Kingdom;
Virgin Atlantic Airways
British Midland Airways
British Airways…(flag carrier)

Japan;
All Nippon Airways
Japan Airlines…(flag carrier)

admin answers:

The US government is prohibited by the Constitution, from competing with private companies, with a few exceptions.

A national, flag-carrying airline would be a violation of the US Constitution.

Most other countries do not have the same restrictions.

Sandy asks…

do you know of how to get any cheap airline tickets out of japan?

i am looking for a one-way ticket out of japan on early january, to either bankok or the usa, which ever is cheaper. i am not a student. OR do you know of ANY cheap way to get out of japan? even by boat? thanks for any help!

The cheapest way out of Japan is the boat to the ROK. Flights to Seoul are cheap as well. Manila may be a cheaper option than BK. Guam is not expensive and it’s sort of the US.

John asks…

If a child is born on a international flight – what citizenship does he get?

Thats the question…

Lets say parents belong to USA.
And they are flying between UK and France (using Japan Airlines). And the child is born midway in the flight.

Does the child get US, UK,French or Japanese citizenship?

admin answers:

It depends on the country, the USA for example will allow someone born in US airspace whose parents are not US citizens to apply for citizenship, just because they’re born in US airspace does not automatically make them a citizen without applying for citizenship if their parents are not citizens. Most countries don’t grant citizenship or allow someone to apply just because they were born there or in their airspace or their airplanes. In most cases they will be citizens of the country of their parents and will not be entitled to apply only because of where they were born. In the case you used for an example, the child will be a US citizen and have no rights of citizenship in the UK, France and especially Japan which has some of the most homogenous citizenship regulations in the world.
