Holiday In Japan 2011

Laura asks…

Can I go to Japan with a Mexican Passport?

OK I’m a Mexican citizen (i was born in mexico) but i live in Australia. I’m not an Australian citizen yet, i need wait till August the 8th 2012 to get my citizenship. I’m currently in year 12 (2011) and I wanted to go to japan during the summer holidays (December) 2011. Can i still do so with my Mexican passport?
or should i wait until I’m an Australian citizen? thanks

admin answers:

YES you can go with your Mexican Passport, but you will need to get a TEMPORARY VISITOR’s status (aka TOURIST VISA) to visit Japan. You can apply at the Japanese Embassy/Consulate in AUS. The process can be a pain sometimes with all the required paperwork you have to produce. But “YES” it is possible as long as you get all your paperwork approved.

If you wait and become a AUS Citizen and have a AUS Passport, no Visa, no paperwork is required to visit.

Canadian in Japan Income tax Question?

Ok, so here is the situation.

I am a canadian citizen currently working in Japan on a working holiday visa.
In 2011, I worked in Canada from January to late May, income before taxes totalling about $12 000.
Now that I am in Japan, with tax season coming up (and god knows I could use the refund) is there a way to file my Canadian income tax form here in Japan?
I am not planning to go back to Canada until at least June 2012, but possibly until June 2013.
Is it possible to file the tax return the following year? or possibly by family?

Thanks in advance
Also, if anyone is familiar with the income tax in Japan, about how much should I expect to be deducted if I make about 160 000yen/month, 1 920 000yen/year?
So, like get someone to take my T4s and other forms and mail it to me?

admin answers:

Tax returns can be filed online with CRA(Canadian Revenue Agency) using Netfile and for this you need to have CRA approved software. Here below is info from CRA’s website:

The NETFILE transmission service is open from February 14, 2011, until September 30, 2011, for the electronic filing of your 2010 personal income tax and benefit return. Tax returns filed via NETFILE must first be prepared using one of the 2010 commercial tax preparation software packages or Web applications certified for NETFILE. (Link for this info is: http://www.netfile.gc.ca/)

Here is the link from CRA’s website for tax preparation software packages or Web applications certified for NETFILE: http://www.netfile.gc.ca/sftwr-eng.html

Its going to be better for you to Contact CRA thru emails or by calling CRA Helpdesk ( Link : http://www.netfile.gc.ca/hlp-eng.html#telephone )
