Mandy asks…

What is the cheapest air ticket I can get from Japan to the Philippines?

My family and I were planning to go to the Philippines this December. We were wondering what the cheapest possible route was from Japan to the Philippines.

We are planning to leave Japan on December 10 2007 and we will return to Japan within the first week of January 2008. We do not mind having to transit at a different airport or using multiple airlines.

David asks…

I am going to Manila on a one way ticket, I have a one way ticket back from another airline is there a problem?

Hi, I heard you cannot leave the US for the Philippines on a one way ticket if you are not a citizen of Philippines and that the airline will not let you board the plane without proof of a return flight. I am leaving from the US. It is the law of Philippines also to seek a return flight but I know their customs often do not check (I was there in august and they took my customs checklist and threw it away without even looking lol).

So my question is how closely will the airline.. Im flying from (Japan Airlines) look at my intinerary from a different airlines to let me on the flight in the first place leaving the US. Will they call a different airline to confirm? I have heard that they sometimes dont even check for you return flight.

The reason I ask is because I have not bought my ticket back I just changed the dates on my previous flight online inteniary(it looks very legit) because Iam getting a extension on my temporary tourist visa while there for $59. Any info would be great.
Thanks for all the info, I was in Metro Manila(Malate) for two weeks and stayed at my buddies condo last August so I know how things work over there. The US Embassy is about 15 minutes form where he lives, does it still cost $59 for a 39 day temporary tourist visa extension? I am just going to buy a return ticket when I am ready to leave, I have been told the airlines really dont care about a return ticket as long as you are going to return to the US which I am thanks for the replies
Forgot to mention, does anybody know of any nice cities within a 6 hour distance by bus from Manila, me and my friend are looking perhaps bagiuo city? I love manila but its sort of expensive when compared to the whole country…btw I love the Philippines and when I have enough money I want to retire there but until then my buddies condo will have to do

admin answers:

You dont need a ticket back to the usa. You just need a ticket out of the country. The US embassy in the philippines doesnt issue philippine visas, i dont think. Most travel agents will get your visa extension for you for a small fee. Its worth it not to wait in line.

Some nice places to visit a by bus (and ferry) are puerto galera, subic, baguio and cebu.

Try to get out of manila. I love the philippines but despise manila.

Donald asks…

Will Virgin Galactic Spaceship one lead to intercontinental flights such as from Europe or to the US?

or (if it is ever developed) do you think it would be limited to long haul flights such as from US to Japan or Australia to Europe? Would it be economical to fly from Europe to US i just over one hour. I thought it would take more fuel than it is worth? Or, do I need to get a life?

admin answers:

It is meant for short suborbital leaps above the atmosphere, so that the passengers can see the curvature of the Earth and experience weightlessness.

It is not designed for intercontinental flights. There are plenty of ordinary jumbojets for that.

How wide are the seats on Skymark Airlines in Japan?

We are trying to decide between Japan Air and Skymark – I can’t find anything that answers how wide the seats are on Skymark, in any section of the plane.

admin answers:

They are using B737-800. I don’t think it’s different from other B737-800 seats.

December 2009, Japan Airlines (Chicago to Tokyo), JPOP channel 2: what was the first song on the playlist?

It was the 2nd channel on the in-flight entertainment music (jpop Today?), very first song. It was one guy singing, and I thought he kind of sounded a little like Matsumoto Jun (from Arashi). I can’t for the life of me remember the name/artist of the song and it’s driving me crazy!

admin answers:

It may be :

1. “Love Fighter” by Breakerz

or

2. “Golden Time-Lover” by Skima Switch

I’m sorry if both of them were not what you are looking for. I checked the audio menu of 2009. Dec on their international flight, and they only have 2 possibilities on “J-Pop 2ch”.

Travel From Japan To Korea

Ruth asks…

What VoIP apps could I use to make Wifi calls from Japan on a Verizon Droid X?

I’m traveling to Japan and Korea in a few days, and am looking to make calls on Wifi (from my hotel or from an internet cafe that has wifi) to the US with my Verizon Droid X. I’m a looking to make to calls to cellphones in the US. Data roaming off, airplane mode on, wifi on, no exceptions unless someone dire like the Yakuza chasing me. As Skype no longer has wifi, is there another app similar to Skype or perhaps enables Skype to function on wifi? Thanks.

admin answers:

The only other app I have heard of is MobileVoip and it is supposed to allow voice over IP calls on both 3G and wifi. I have never used the app personally so I would recommend testing it out in the US before you rely on it overseas.

Charles asks…

Confused About International Airport Procedures….?!?

I’m an American traveling from Korea to the US with an connecting flight from Japan(From Korea to Japan to the US).

I’m kinda confused about who international airport procedures go. I’m currently in the Military going on leave..but I don’t know if I have to certain counter at the Airport or not..here’s what I have so far:

1. Boarding Check-in (no problem)
2. Baggage Check-in(1 bag within weight regulations)
3. E/D Card(fill out the Arrival side of the card ONLY)
4. Customs Declaration (I’ll only be carrying $75 on me..if I have a $600 Laptop with me will I still have to go here?)
5. Security Screening( No Problem)
6. Departure Immigration (This is the most confusing part..I was born in the US & will be traveling to the US..do I still have to do this part?)
7. Boarding(No Problem)

Also..will I have to go through the same steps in Japan when I transfer to my connecting flight?

I Checked out BOTH Airport’s websites..I’m still not 100& positive on certain things. Can Some1 help me out?
sorry about the small typos..i meant “but I don’t know if I have to report certain counter at the Airport or not…”

Another thing….since I’m in the US Military I already know I don’t need a passport..all I need is my “Leave Form” (which I got from my base). & my Orders….but would I still need to go through Customs Declaration?..or Departure Immigration for that matter?

I’m just asking because I don’t wanna get on a long line..just to wait for a long time then have them tell me..”You didn’t need to come to this counter”
I’ll only have 2 hours (at Most) to do all this.

Any advice will help….Thank you!

admin answers:

Customs.. It doesn’t matter how much your stuff is worth, they mean monies

Immigration.. It won’t be immigration because your not going to LIVE there!

Just relax and they will tell you where to go when you are there.

Betty asks…

Are there any organized trave arrangements between North Korea and South Korea?

I have a friend who lives in Seoul, S. Korea, and I thought about going to see him soon. He says they’re fairly friendly to western tourists. It’s about as easy as going to Japan. The only set back may be the price of the plane ticket. lol We thought about going to N. Korea to visit some of his family…but according to him most of the tavel consists of N. Koreans trying to escape from thier country. I was wondering if there was any peaceful way to travel between N. Korea and S. Korea.

admin answers:

The previous answer is obviously from someone who lives abroad and never ever stepped foot in Korea.

I live and work in SK. Last year, I’ve travelled between SK and NK. We left from Seoul by bus, crossed the DMZ under close examinations and ID checking, customs checking and all. After 2 hours at the NK customs, we got through, and we spent a whole day on a bus tour around North Hwanghae province. (Kaesong is the main city).

It was beautiful, people was friendly. The tours and historical stuff were really interesting. The NK food is AMAZING. (Well, if you like spicy food).

Cost us about 250.000? (k-won) per person. Once there, you only can pay in USD. I’m European. My wife is a South Korean national, and she could get there without any problem. In our bus were many canadians, french and a few eastern europeans.

I can’t say if as an american you are allowed to go there.

All the tours have been cancelled a week after our trip, last year.
They might resume soon, as NK and SK are having a lot of friendly meetings lately, and that NK is doing a lot of efforts for both governments relationships.

Aw, and if I were you, I’d stop to believe all the bull-sh** you see on US news about NK and SK.

Lizzie asks…

nationalism in Korea increasing?

do you think the idea of the increase of nationalism in Korea is a great idea from restricting foreigners, specifically the White-Americans from coming to Korea? similar to how Japan‘s controlling their immigration and preventing White-Americans from coming to Japan.

Is this the main reason why many White-Americans travel to Thailand instead?

I should also ask, why do the majority of the White males have a mentality of liking a much younger girl, and come to Thailand by fulfilling their desires there?

Japan Ticket Sale

Donna asks…

Concert (Japan) Ticket HELP?

Hi, I won a ticket for a concert (in Japan) through lottery but I just received the details now (I bought it through online shopping service since I live overseas but will be in Japan next month) and I believe my seating sucks. Given that the regular sales/selling of ticket for the same concert will be starting next week, (1) would it still be possible to get a better seat and (2) Get rid of this ticket I have now by selling it perhaps? I know that getting a better seat would mean I have to pay more but all I want to know is whether it still is possible given my circumstances.

admin answers:

You have 3 questions bundled into one:

- can you buy new tickets? Sure. Just buy them!
- can you sell/get rid of your existing tickets? Sure. Post the availability and your selling price on classifieds (e.g. Craigslist, metropolis, etc.) or (since you did not pay anything for them) just give them away!
- can you “upgrade” your existing tickets to better ones? Highly unlikely but you should check with the venue

Susan asks…

Is there anyone in Japan that could ballot a ticket for me for any of the Arashi concerts for 2010?

Arashi announced their concert schedule for 2010-2011. The dates are:

21th-22th August ->Kokuritsu
3th-4th September -> Kokuritsu
29-30-31th October – Osaka Dome
13-14th November – Sapporo Dome
19-20-21th November – Tokyo Dome
4-5th December – Nagoya Dome
15-16th January (2011) – Fukuoka

If there is anyone living in Japan currently that is a part of their fan club, I would GREATLY APPRECIATE IT if there was a way a ticket could be balloted for me. I have the cash and will be able to pay immediately through PayPal or any other method. I know the concert tickets are not for sale yet, but I wanted to ask in advance. Please let me know what you think and if anyone would be willing to help.

Thank you

admin answers:

Have you tried asking on a site like livejournal or some other American fan site? You might find someone who’s already offering what youre loooking for.

If you can’t find anyone, theres pretty much a guaranteed fact that scalpers will be willing to sell you some… The only downside is the risk and the price.

Let me know if you need some links!

Mark asks…

Who is going to japan to see dir en grey at the Zepp Fukuoka?

it’s in fukuoka, Japan anyone know when tickets go on sale? how much do they cost?
I live in LA and plan on departing from LAX to arrive at FUK (fukuoka, Japan) are there any cheap plane tickets? how much do dir en grey tickets cost? hotels? taxis? food?

admin answers:

I’m going see them in both Hiroshima and Fukuoka. No tickets have not yet gone on sale they go on sale the 29th and cost 5500 yen.

If you are not living in Japan though you have to get someone to buy the tickets for you as they dont ship the tickets overseas. I am using this guy mukunoki-jp.net/ to buy tickets.

Plane tickets from LAX are currently 800 or so dollars. But book through www.iace-usa.com.

Also are you flying into Tokyo or Osaka? Osaka is closer to Fukuoka. So either way your going to have to take a train to Fukuoka. You might want to get a railpass.

Hotels can be found for around 60 dollars a night. Also a taxi in Japan is very expensive so you might want to just stick with the trains.

Food can be very cheap or very expensive depending on what you eat.

Hope to see you there.

Linda asks…

When do 2007 baseball tickets go on sale?

And how do I buy them from outside Japan?
I want to see a Hanshin vs. Kyojin match if possible at the Tokyo Dome when I am there next year.

admin answers:

The Pacific league should be selling soon since the schedule is fixed. The Central league hasn’t set up their official schedule yet. I asked around and baseball fans said that they should start selling them in February.
If you already know your traveling dates, I would suggest that you contact the concierge of the hotel which you will be staying at and have them book your tickets.

You can purchase them on the internet but I could only find it in Japanese. I HAVE found this site that SAYS that they will purchase the tickets for you, but personally I do not know if it is a fraud or not, but you can take a look anyways.
